Non-executive director
Born in 1947, Jeroen studied mechanical engineering at Delft University and economics at Rotterdam University. He also has an honorary doctorate from Port Harcourt University (Nigeria).
Jeroen joined Unilever as an advisory director in May 2002 and subsequently became a non-executive director in 2004. He currently serves on the company's nomination and remuneration committees.
He took over as chairman of the committee of managing directors of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and Shell Transport and Trading in March 2004. Following the unification of these two companies into Royal Dutch Shell in October 2005, Jeroen was appointed the chief executive of the new company.
He has held various positions during his 30 years of service with Royal Dutch/Shell, and has managed foreign posts in a number of key markets around the world, including the Netherlands, the UK, Curaçao and the US.
Additionally, Jeroen was a supervisory board member of the Dutch Central Bank from 2000 until 2004.
He is married with three daughters and enjoys jogging, skating, golf and visiting museums.
