R&D is really exciting - being able to get a grip on new products and having the thrill of seeing your new product on the shelves is incredibly rewarding.

The company really needs people who link research and business goals. There is a world of knowledge here in Vlaardingen and in the other research centres that would not be fully utilised without making these connections. If you develop new products you have to understand consumer needs and see how you can make their lives easier and more enjoyable - giving them the thrill of a unique tasting or eating experience. I also like the idea that the products we provide really help people live healthier lifestyles.

I am currently involved in a project for the pro.activ range, which we are aiming to complete in six months. New products today require extensive consumer testing and clinical trials and we have been working really hard to hit our targets, so that we can roll out these products right across Europe. Travelling is therefore a big part of my job - but it's one I really enjoy.

I love exploring, seeing, feeling and tasting new and different cultures. Aside from working with Unilever innovation centres, other research centres and business groups, I also get the chance to meet ingredient suppliers and attend lectures to keep in touch with science. I love the diversity in my work.
