The industry wide recall of grocery products in the UK market has affected various varieties of Unilever retail products.

Unilever UK statement on Sudan 1 food recall

On February 14, Unilever was notified by a supplier (Premier Foods) that there was an issue concerning possible contamination of Worcester sauce with Sudan 1 dye. Unilever immediately identified which of its products was involved and on February 16 issued notices to retailers to withdraw these particular varieties from sale.

On February 18, the Food standards agency alerted consumers that there would be a full recall of 400 plus supermarket own label and manufacturers brands. A full list of these products is available on the FSA's website.

We would like to emphasise that this withdrawal is a precautionary measure as the amounts used are extremely small and there is no reason to believe that there is any immediate health risk to consumers.

No other Unilever retail brands in the UK are affected. The prompt actions we have taken ensured we asked that all our affected products should be removed from public sale as quickly as possible.

Unilever has been working closely with the Food standards agency and other manufacturers and retailers to find the best way of communicating to UK consumers without causing undue concern.
