Recognising environmental best practice
Unilever has attained the highest possible score on the new FTSE4Good Environmental Leaders Europe 40 Index.
The index identifies 40 European companies with leading environmental practices: companies that have achieved tangible and significant results when it comes to reducing their impact on the environment.
As well as validating Unilever's focus on environmental best practice, this result will also prove financially important for the business. This is because more and more global investors want to make environmentally responsible investments. And the new Index, which draws upon the credibility of the FTSE brand, gives them a clear, trustworthy indication of which companies to consider.
"This innovative new index will appeal to a broad range of institutional and retail investors who want to minimise environmental risk within their portfolios and capitalise on the benefits of strong environmental practice," explained Will Oulton, Head of Responsible Investment at the FTSE Group.
Although the Environmental Leaders Index is new, it has evolved from the original FTSE4Good Index, which, launched in 2001, addressed the whole range of corporate responsibility concerns - listing Unilever right from the start.
