For most scientists, the thrill is publication, telling the world about the science they've done in competition with other scientists. For me, the real excitement and enjoyment is taking the extra step of going to a manufacturing facility and seeing what I've designed coming out of the end of a process line as a brand.
I am tremendously lucky to be working for a company like Unilever. There is a high quality, enthusiastic team here at Colworth and the facilities at our disposal are first class. I joined the business after completing my PhD at York University in 1980 and have never looked back.
Everything here is geared towards finding new ways to make consumers' lives easier and more fulfilling. It is this environment which has helped me achieve 20 Unilever patents - a Colworth record! I’m determined that's not the end of the story and am confident many more patents will be achieved in the years ahead.
