The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute contributes to food and health science by our scientific publications, presentations at scientific conferences and our annual symposia.

Our contribution

Scientific publications & presentations

The quality and quantity of our scientific work allows us to produce a flow of scientific publications in top scientific journals and presentations at international scientific conferences on a wide range of topics.  For example, in 2004, we published 76 scientific papers, some in collaboration with the best external experts and institutes. Some of our publications were amongst the most frequently cited papers, according to the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In 2004, we also delivered 205 presentations at international conferences.

Annual nutrition & health symposia

Turning scientific consensus into actual health behaviour involves interested parties such as scientific experts, public health organisations, consumer interest groups, regulatory bodies, educational systems and also the food industry. Bringing key representatives of these groups together to share insights and to look for co-operation is the key objective of our annual Unilever Food and Health Research Institute (formerly Unilever Health Institute) symposium series started in 2000. The 2004 symposium ‘The Healthy Choice an Easy Choice’ was attended by 350 participants, including top representatives from UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the academic world and a selection of scientific experts and marketing experts of Unilever.

Annual science & technology symposia

At its annual science & technology symposia, the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute symposia brings together delegates and experts from across Unilever and the world of science. They discuss topics such as safety by design, novel processing and preservation, product structuring, flavour generation and delivery and consumer preference and behaviour.
