Every little bar of Lifebuoy soap comes with one very big idea—that sometimes it’s the smallest changes that can have the most dramatic effects. Every time you use a Lifebuoy product, you’re not just practicing your own good hygiene habits, you’re also supporting the education of millions of kids in countries with the highest disease prevalence about how they can practice basic good hygiene for themselves too!
It’s all about education, education, education. By teaching the importance of handwashing with soap at the right moments and creating long term behaviour changes, we can help dramatically limit the spread of preventable illness.
The Lifebuoy programmes focus on creating real, long-lasting behaviour changes through four principles: awareness, commitment, reinforcement and reward, which makes good hygiene habits easier to adopt. Kids are learning how this good habit can prevent them from falling sick, meaning they can attend and enjoy school more often. Since 2010, the programmes at schools, health clinics and via community outreach have spread the word about good hygiene habits to an incredible 426 million people across Asia, Africa and Latin America! But this is just the beginning. Together, we can help educate even more kids and mothers about the importance of how, when and why to wash their hands.

We know that hygiene habits are hardly top of a kid’s list of ‘fun’ topics. So we’re delivering that handwashing message in ways that are more entertaining. To engage kids more about the topic, we created Lifebuoy’s School of 5 Programme. Along with comic books available in over 19 languages, it brings to life the importance of handwashing with soap in a way that’s fun, relatable and easy to remember.
Across the world we also work alongside innovative partners and NGOs, everyone from Oxfam and Sightsavers, to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to ensure there’s a real, tangible drive behind our hygiene behaviour change mission.
We’ve also got a secret weapon in the war against bad hygiene habits—our Little Doctors who are young hygiene ambassadors in Indonesia. In partnership with the Indonesian government we have taught local communities about the importance of handwashing with soap. So far through children and mothers, we have reached over a 100 million people —and together we’re aiming to reach even more!
Handwashing is one of those little actions that can make such a big difference. And when you wash your hands with Lifebuoy, you’re not only making that big difference in your own life, you’re making a big difference in the lives of millions of kids around the world!
