Backing values-led ventures

Who won Ben & Jerry’s Campaign for a Good Cores?

The ice cream company invited social entrepreneurs from across Europe to enter their values-led ventures into a competition to win the tools to launch a crowdfunding campaign backed by Ben & Jerry’s. Ten winners were selected – two each from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and Sweden – by an expert panel that included Ashoka, the world’s leading network of social entrepreneurs. You can read more about the winning projects at www.benjerry.co.uk/values/join-our-core.

Ben & Jerry’s is providing 20% of each winner’s financial target and publicising their campaigns across its digital, PR and social media channels. The winners also get to visit the company’s headquarters in Vermont in the US and receive business mentoring from Unilever experts.

Fans of the ice cream can back the crowdfunding campaigns in return for rewards from the winners and Ben & Jerry’s, including merchandise such as ice cream parties and trips to the Ben & Jerry’s European factory.

Through this initiative, Ben & Jerry’s became the first company to launch a Europe-wide crowdfunding initiative.

€250,000 and counting

Ed Shepherd, Social Mission Manager at Ben & Jerry’s, says: “We’re excited to play our part in taking these values-led ventures to the next level. This year we upped the ante and created a bigger support package for the winners, with additional training and a crowdfunding element for businesses that reflect our values.”

The initiative also supports Ben & Jerry’s social mission which is “to use our company in innovative ways to make the world a better place” while at the same time inspiring more consumers to get involved and contributing to sustainable brand growth.

Since its launch in 2012, Join Our Core – in partnership with Ashoka – has supported 25 social entrepreneurs across the world with business mentoring, prizes and publicity, and over €250,000 in funding. The partnership has also created a network of over 50 leading social entrepreneurs.
