We created a Social Mission Board (SMB) tasked with keeping our mission burning bright and challenging us to expand its reach. Our SMB includes a range of dynamic sustainability leaders who meet twice a year (plus two annual conference calls with Seventh Generation leadership), and who push us to take our social mission initiatives even further. For instance, one way Seventh Generation works to reduce our carbon footprint as a company is through an internal carbon tax. Our SMB recently urged us to double that tax, from $6 to $12 per ton of carbon to really hold ourselves accountable.
For over 30 years, Seventh Generation has been on a mission to create a more healthy, sustainable, and equitable world for the generations to come. That mission is at the heart of everything we do. You might say we do business a little differently, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
We make laundry, cleaning, & baby products you can trust, from folks who care about the same things you do: our families, and future generations.
With Seventh Generation, you always know what you’re bringing into your home. We know that plant-based products can provide the efficacy you are looking for, and that products designed from renewable plant-based ingredients bring us closer to a sustainable world than ingredients made from petroleum. We see the environment as a top priority and champion sustainable products. We believe that waste, is well... a waste. It's why we use recycled materials to design our packaging, and why we design recyclable packaging in turn. We have a lot of beliefs, but the biggest one is that we have a responsibility to this generation and the next seven. What do you believe? We invite you on our journey to nurture the health of the next seven generations.
Creating a more healthy, sustainable, and equitable world for the generations to come
As a mission-driven company, we believe that business can be a positive force in the world—that a business can do well, and do good. That’s why we have several initiatives that help drive our agenda forward.
In September 2019, Seventh Generation joined the Global Climate Strike movement to deliver world leaders a clear, united message: no more empty promises, no more hopeful talk—the time for bold, lasting climate action is right here, right now. At Seventh Generation, we were proud to support the Global Climate Strike by donating all of our communication channels during strike week to amplify their message, and to close our headquarters on 20 September so we could stand shoulder to shoulder with the students leading the protest. Our staff joined strike efforts in the US as well as in cities around the world, electrified by the energy of the day, and inspired by the passionate youth leading this movement.
Product Responsibility & Science
Our packaging not only holds the good stuff— it is the good stuff
Packaging is more than just a container to us. By 2025, we aspire to reach our goal that 100% of packaging will be reusable and reused, recyclable and recycled, or biodegradable and degraded.
Our products are on a mission
That’s why we source renewable, plant-based ingredients, formulate using the precautionary principle, and list our ingredients right on our packaging. We know that plant-based products can provide the efficacy you are looking for, and that products designed from renewable plant-based ingredients are a sustainable option that can do the work.
