A good tasting future
Food is why we’re all here. It sustains life, spreads joy and brings us together.
But we believe the way the world makes and eats food needs fixing.
Every night, around one in nine people go to bed hungry. Meanwhile, one third of our food is never eaten. Add to that over-harvesting, climate change and poor diets and obesity, and it’s clear we must do better.
That’s why we’re driving Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan forward. By working in close partnerships with third parties, we’re creating sustainable growth through food brands with a purpose.
And Hive is at the global core of this food system transformation.
What’s in our pantry?
Sustainable farming: More data means better bio-diversity. With better crop diversity, farmers can grow more foods and tired soils can spring back to life
Meat-free ‘meat’: In partnership with the Wageningen University & Research and new brands like The Vegetarian Butcher, we’re at the forefront of developing the next generation of meat alternatives.
Knorr Future 50: Together with WWF, we’ve launched the Future 50 Food report, a diverse collection of plant-based foods that are better for our health and kinder to our planet.
Knorr fortified stock: We’ve brought iron-fortified bouillon cubes to market in a range of African and South-East Asian countries with poor iron intakes. That way, getting this essential nutrient easy and affordable.

Nestled in the heart of the Wageningen Campus, Unilever is cooking up the products that will help solve them.
Hive’s unique location inspires researchers and students from Wageningen University & Research to join forces with global startups, knowledge centers and even customers to change the food industry for good.
Hive’s compact design brings people together in a more eco-friendly building. You’ll be rubbing elbows with food innovators across three floors of labs and offices, a pilot plant and food and customer experience area.
Hive was built to allow a more open, revolutionary way of co-working. Together, we’re breaking down silos and ideas to co-create real innovation in food.
Building a sustainable future
Our building is good to the core. We designed Hive to be energy neutral, packed with daylight and the optimal place to grow ideas and products. Plus we’re proud to be recognised as one of the most sustainable buildings in the world.

Wherever possible, our building parts come from recycled or sustainable origins and are designed to be reused in the future.
