Providing innovation and training

Over the past three years, there has been a 200% increase in foodbanks in the UK.

The Trussell Trust, an organisation dedicated to providing emergency food, realised it must extend its operational model to help meet this growing need.

Phil Long led a team of Unilever volunteers that provided the Trust with IT innovation and business skills training.

This work has enabled change in one local foodbank in the London borough of Tower Hamlets and is now being rolled out across the country.

Alongside strategic partners Salesforce, Vodafone and Sapient, we are now working to streamline the way the Trust’s foodbanks are run and help the organisation grow.

As Phil says: “The new platform is improving relationship, donor and volunteer management, enabling the foodbanks to be more sustainable.”

A catalyst for change

Championing employee engagement, Phil sought out the expertise within the team to give world-class business training and IT innovation to this rapidly expanding charity.

Phil’s strategic direction is helping the Trussell Trust set up regional hubs and implement the online platform that the team developed.

The partnering template and volunteering scheme created during this process – coupled with the platform – will be rolled out worldwide with the Global Foodbanking Network, which operates in 38 countries.
