Established in 2004 by TIGI founder Anthony Mascolo to recognise and nurture future stars, it has become one of the most respected and successful youth training programmes in hairdressing. So far, over 180 young hairdressers from the UK, US and Germany have been trained. In 2017, the programme will be expanded to Italy, France and Australasia.
Often described as ‘life-changing’, the programme has allowed former members to go on to win awards, work as session stylists backstage at international catwalk shows and with glossy magazines, and open their own salons.
During the five-day bootcamp, participants learn about the latest trends in cut and colour as well fashion and photography, and develop their technical, editorial and presentation skills. The week culminates in a photoshoot and catwalk show.
Throughout they are mentored by the TIGI Creative Team, led by Akos Bodi, European Creative Director. “Mentoring the TIGI Inspirational Youth team is a fulfilling experience. We fast-track learning and expose them to a variety of experiences to improve their skills and ultimately develop a strong team,” he says.
The programme also raises TIGI’s profile with key customers and trade press who are invited to attend the catwalk show.
After the young talent showcased their newfound skills, the press was buzzing with praise. Hair and beauty magazine Tribu.te reported: “Such energy, passion and enthusiasm makes us feel inspired. It’s an amazing opportunity and we love the results.” And salonbusiness.co.uk said: “TIGI Inspirational Youth has won global respect throughout the hairdressing profession.”
“When I began my career,” says Anthony Mascolo, “my brothers gave me the opportunity, support and inspiration to experience photo shoots and shows, which gave me invaluable skills. In turn, I want to provide today’s young hairdressers with the chance to grow their talent. They are the future of our industry.”
