Understand the signs of domestic violence

The issue

In South Africa, one in five women has experienced physical violence and 60,000 women and children are victims of domestic violence.

What can we do about it?

Joko wants to help our nation’s women use their strength to speak out. Our #EndDomesticSilence campaign aims to give women a safe space to have that first difficult conversation.

We’ve partnered with POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse), a South African NGO that advocates for women’s rights and also provides shelter, counselling and legal advice for victims of abuse.

They say knowledge is power and one of the most powerful ways to protect yourself and others against abuse is to learn as much as possible on the subject. By understanding what abusive behaviour is and knowing the signs that someone may be experiencing abuse, you can offer help and support when it’s needed most.
