Dave Ingram, Unilever’s Chief Procurement Officer, explains why our partners are so important to us
The role of Procurement today is unique and filled with opportunities to positively impact the world around us. More than ever, we have a responsibility to take our deep understanding of materials, ingredients, the value chain and the supply market and use this to drive Unilever’s purpose of making sustainable living commonplace.
As a business we believe that brands with purpose grow, and we know that achieving this growth will require help from everyone in our value chain. Unilever works with thousands of partners worldwide and it’s crucial to us that every single one of these partners helps us to create the value, capacity and capability we need to deliver brands and products that consumers love and that promote livelihoods and support the wellbeing of people and planet.
Part of growing sustainably is ensuring our partners work in line with our standards around responsible sourcing, sustainability and human rights and we hope to inspire our partners to demonstrate our values of respect, responsibility and pioneering towards our planet and people. Whether it’s our sustainable sourcing commitments, targets around plastics or expectations around safe and fair working environments, we rely on the expertise and integrity of our partners to raise industry standards.
Together, we can make sustainable living commonplace. Join our journey!
Chief Procurement Officer
Growing together with integrity
Unilever is keen to work with partners who share our purpose and values. Our Responsible Sourcing Policy (RSP) embodies our commitment to conduct business with integrity, openness and respect for universal human rights and sets out the standards we expect of all our partners.
Unilever’s Responsible Sourcing Policy sets out our 12 Fundamental Principles and defines the mandatory requirements that partners must achieve to do business with us.
The RSP also gives guidance and tips on how partners can progress towards industry-leading practices. We expect our partners to work with us and to make progress over time, moving from mandatory requirements towards good and best practices.
Agreeing to the terms of the RSP is a pre-requisite for any partner to do business with us. Find out more about the RSP in action, or download the policy in full (PDF | 9MB).
A significant portion of our future growth will come from innovating and delivering new, leading-edge products into the marketplace. We invest heavily in relationships that allow us to share capabilities and co-innovate because we know around 70% of our future innovations will come from collaborations with our strategic partners. This inclusive way of working allows us to nurture open relationships and encourages our respective research and development teams to work together to uncover new technologies and innovations that can turbo-charge our impact.
We know our partners often do business with other companies that operate in the same competitive markets as we do, so we pride ourselves on doing business differently. We’ve moved away from traditional buying/selling relationships and we’re pioneering more agile ways of doing business which we hope will make us a partner of choice to innovate with.
