Unilever’s Pakistan appeal

Unilever is providing €1 million in cash donations, food and hygiene products following devastating floods in Pakistan.

Unilever sends aid to Pakistan

Unilever announced today that it will provide €1 million to help Pakistan combat the devastating effects of the monsoon floods.

The donation will be divided between the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, Save the Children, Oxfam and Population Services International (PSI).

The donation will be in the form of both cash and products including soap, toothpaste and shampoo.

Unilever Pakistan will also look to work with these agencies over the coming months to help with rehabilitation projects.

Working with partners

In addition, Unilever has worked closely with its partner, the World Food Programme (WFP), to set up a joint website so that its employees can help those affected by the flooding, and the company will match all employee donations to maximise its contribution.

Ehsan Malik, Chairman Unilever Pakistan, says that many requests will be coming into Unilever for help. "We will act in a focused manner, supporting flood-affected persons with cash and product donations through WFP, UNICEF, Save the Children, PSI and Oxfam, distributors and sales teams."

Local presence

In Pakistan, Unilever is also working with local governments in areas where its factories are located – the Rahim Yar Khan HPC Factory and the Khanewal Tea Factory – on product donations. Many employees are also personally helping in these areas.

CEO Paul Polman said: "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible tragedy. Unilever's deep roots in Pakistan make us determined to do all we can to help, especially through our joint work with the UN agencies and NGOs."
