Employee health and wellbeing

At Unilever, we view health and wellbeing as a strategic enabler of sustainable performance. Our ambition is to add healthy years to the lives of our people, strengthening resilience, unlocking untapped human potential, and building a business that thrives because its people do.

Unilever: where wellbeing fuels our people and performance

At Unilever, we believe that when people thrive, businesses flourish. Our commitment to employee wellbeing is not just an initiative; it is a core part of who we are. We recognise the powerful connection between work and health, and we strive to create an environment where every person can bring the best of themselves to work and to life.

Our wellbeing philosophy: supporting the whole-person

We are committed to supporting a healthy, safe, inclusive workplace environment that strengthens physical, mental, social, emotional, and financial wellbeing- because when people feel well, valued, and supported, this improves quality of life and unlocks potential to contribute meaningfully at work, at home, and in society.

Our wellbeing approach brings together prevention, protection, and promotion, guided by strong governance and continual measurement so that our programmes remain relevant, evidence-driven, and impactful.

Work and health are deeply intertwined – how we design work shapes people’s wellbeing, and wellbeing shapes how people perform. At Unilever, our responsibility is to take that relationship seriously, creating the conditions where people can do meaningful work, stay well, and sustain performance over time. When we get that right, wellbeing becomes a real source of strength for our people and for the business.

A globally consistent, locally relevant wellbeing framework

Wellbeing at Unilever is woven into the fabric of our culture, not an add-on. Our global Health and Wellbeing Framework ensures that all colleagues, wherever they are, have access to meaningful, locally tailored support that helps them thrive.

Mental health: a strategic priority for all

Mental health is an integral pillar of our health and wellbeing strategy. We work proactively to reduce stigma and to increase awareness and understanding of mental and emotional health among employees and their managers, and to ensure every employee has access to timely, culturally relevant support. We adapt our approach to reflect cultural attitudes toward mental health across different regions.

Our global Mental Health Ecosystem unifies prevention, promotion, and protection across all markets, delivering early support, streamlined access, and rapid response pathways.

Our Mental Health Champions are a global community of trained and caring colleagues who offer a non-judgemental conversation and signpost colleagues to resources, such as our Employee Assistance Programmes. Since 2020, nearly 4,000 colleagues have been trained as Mental Health Champions, creating a trusted peer-support network worldwide.

Managers and teams are equipped with training and tools to foster psychological safety, normalise conversations about mental and physical health and support performance sustainably.

Financial wellbeing: building confidence and resilience

Recognising the diverse economic realities across our markets, we provide locally relevant tools and programmes to improve financial wellbeing. We actively monitor participation and engagement and evolve our approaches based on market-driven context.

Leadership, governance and accountability

Wellbeing is embedded within our People Strategy. Senior leaders are accountable for championing a culture where care and performance coexist. Strategic oversight by the Unilever Board, defined governance structures and measurable KPIs ensure health and wellbeing remain a sustained priority.

We continually evaluate impact through advanced analytics, employee insight, and academic validation. Participation rates, health outcomes, and engagement feedback shape our strategic direction and ensure resources create meaningful, measurable improvement.

Continuous improvement through connection and insight

We communicate in ways that are accessible and inclusive, using plain language that is easy to understand, and offer multi-lingual resources, and authentic imagery to reach every colleague. Realtime pulse surveys, advanced data analytics, and external academic evaluation ensure we constantly refine, improve, and evolve our approach.

Looking ahead: innovation to shape the future of work

As workplaces evolve, so must our approach to health and wellbeing. We are expanding access to AI enabled tools and personalised care pathways governed by strict data privacy and ethical standards. We use predictive analytics to identify health risks, offer earlier and preventive intervention, improve access to support and resources, and innovative solutions. Targeted programmes focusing on young people, support at different stages of life, caregivers and those navigating serious illness ensure our strategy remains inclusive.

Our ambition goes far beyond today's programmes. We are building a future in which health and wellbeing is seamlessly embedded into leadership, culture, and the everyday employee experience, empowering our people to grow, contribute, and thrive.

Conclusion: a workplace where everyone can be their best
