Urgent appeal to help protect thousands of lives in India
With COVID-19 cases rising every day in India, many people are fleeing cities to seek safety in rural areas, causing the virus to spread even further.
This threatens to overburden local health centres that are already stretched, making the task of managing the crisis even tougher.
What we can do about it
As India faces another deadly wave of COVID-19, WaterAid is urgently scaling up its efforts to bring clean water, toilets and hygiene facilities to people who need it most.
Emergency work to repair infrastructure and install new facilities such as water storage units, handwashing stations and mobile toilets, is already underway in 50 healthcare centres.
There’s also support for sanitation workers on the frontline, providing safety and hygiene support to 2,000 people, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
And with the dry season now approaching, many areas will soon be experiencing water shortages. With your support, WaterAid aims to provide emergency water supplies to 12,000 people.
As the situation changes by the day, your support could also help WaterAid respond to the escalating crisis across South Asia, making an even bigger impact.
