Unilever has been awarded an ‘A’ for Performance by global NGO CDP (formally the Carbon Disclosure Project) and included in ‘The A List: The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index 2015’ (CPLI). We also achieved the maximum Disclosure score of 100, up from 99 in 2014 and 85 in 2013.

2015 is the fourth year that Unilever has achieved an ‘A’ Performance Band rating, one of 11 companies to achieve an ‘A’ in the Consumer Staples sector. Only 113 (5%) of participating companies overall have been awarded an ‘A’ Performance Band rating.

Making progress on climate change mitigation

The CPLI is a global index and lists the companies, including ourselves, who have been identified by CDP as demonstrating a leading approach to climate change mitigation. Nearly 2000 companies globally participated in the CDP Climate Change 2015 questionnaire. Information provided by these companies was independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and companies were ranked accordingly.

Jeff Seabright, Unilever’s Chief Sustainability Officer, says: “The science is making it increasingly clear that climate change is one of, if not the greatest challenge, that we as a civilisation face on the planet in the 21st century. We are delighted to be among the growing movement of companies taking action on climate change. Increasing levels of action on climate change as well as disclosure of the action being taken is evidence of the seriousness with which climate change is being taken by governments, businesses and investors.”
